Startup Weekend at Kurukshetra'15

Entrepreneur is just French for ‘Has ideas, does them’.

Startup weekend is a platform for active and aspiring entrepreneurs, innovators and enthusiasts to showcase and channelize their ideas. The event provides an opportunity to pitch ideas and form teams and can get you several steps closer to setting up your own Startup than you had ever imagined.

For the very first time, a Startup Weekend is being organised at CEG from January 29th to 31th during Kurukshetra. It is open to everyone, be it a corporate looking to start their own business or even a 1st year college student.

Every Startup Weekend workshop takes place in a similar manner. Upon conclusion of the welcome address and registration, all participants pitch in their startup ideas. After which, teams are organically formed around the top ideas, which is determined by a vote among the attendees. Conventionally each team would contain a designer, a coder and a business marketer (one each atleast). Then starts the 54-hour long race to organise thoughts, ideas and work on producing an effective prototype.

Feedback is an integral part of the workshop, right from the beginning participants can give feedback to their peers. Teams also have the chance to interact with successful entrepreneurs and business professionals who also oblige to ‘coach’ each team during the course of the workshop. These coaches/ mentors will be able to guide teams on how to begin work on their prototype and hopefully convert their ideas into a full-fledged business itself. The weekend culminates with teams’ final presentations in front of a panel of judges, which is also the last stage to receive critical and crucial feedback.

With students, corporate and business professionals from various backgrounds, attending the event it is a networking hub where there is chance to meet and interact with people to learn and grow. For example, speaking with a cofounder of a start-up and getting to know nuances in the business can help you mould and shape up your own. Many a time, there might be aspiring entrepreneurs who are unsure of how to execute or process their ideas. Or others who are not sure if they can take the risk of opening up their own business due to financial strain, Startup weekend acts as a mediator to find solutions for such issues.

With eminent speakers such as Gowrishankar TS (Senior Product Manager, Amazon.in), Rajagopalan Natrajan (Entreprenuer, Startup Advisor) and Deepak Krishnan (AVP at FreeCharge.in) on the panel this is expected to be a success. Moreover, the mentors include Senthil Kanthasamy (Co-founder & COO, Frilp.com), Dorai Thodla (Founder, iMorph, Inc.), Karthikeyan Vijayakumar (Founder & CEO twenty19.com), Gokulraj GK (CEO, MyCopie), Vish Viswanathan (CEO, UBICS Inc.) and Madhumitha Viswanathan who will be at arm’s-length to give feedback to each team. The final round will be judged by Mr. Suresh Sambandam (Founder & CEO OrangeSpace / KiSSFLOW) and Mr. Murugavel Janakiraman (Founder & CEO, BharatMatrimony).

All ticketing and registrations have opened and will be closed by January 28th evening. Visit the kurukshetra website (http://kurukshetra.org.in/#/) or this Startup weekend’s website (http://www.up.co/communities/india/chennai/startup-weekend/5466) to know more.
