'Brace' Yourselves! Living with Braces: The experience

You know you're living with braces when:

  • The dentist takes the impression of your mouth and put that disgusting mould into your mouth.

  •
  •
  • You have got something stuck in your teeth, but it turns out to be nothing at all. Yet, there's something wrong and you know it but just can't prove it.

  •
  •
  •
  • You experience that awkward moment when there's spinach stuck in your braces but you don't notice till the end of the day. That's probably when you also realise that you had been talking to your crush in class earlier.

  •
  •
  •
  • When people constantly ask you whether you can eat different types of food without your braces breaking.

  •
  •
  •
  • You make plans based on the day when you're due for braces tightening ("What if it's tightened too hard and you can't eat anything?") Even eating bread is a challenge. Let's be happy that at least the ice cream is on our side!

  • You experience that heart-stopping moment when you think you've broken your braces!

  •
  •
  •
  • You have a small ray of hope you have every time you ask the dentist "So, how much longer?"  (Which gets extinguished when he asks us to wait patiently.)

  • You might end up missing them too.

( Actually no. Scratch that. Never. Stockholm syndrome? Never.)

  • Your dentist informs you that you have to don the wires one more time Don’t worry – that is a really rare scenario.

  •
  •
  •
  • You experience that glorious moment when they remove it and finally remember how nice it feels to have normal teeth again.

Braces cut both ways. Accept the pain and 'brace' yourselves, for in some time, you’ll see a beautiful smile before the mirror.
