Drona 2020

Educators do more than just imparting their knowledge to the best of their ability; they take it upon themselves to ensure the well-being of all their students. In trying times such as these, it is easy for us to overlook how much they have indeed done for us. Expressing their heartfelt gratitude to their mentors, the second- and third-year students of the Department of Biotechnology organized DRONA, an event to highlight their noble efforts.

Drona 2020 is the first non-technical event in the department, to be successfully conducted virtually. It was conducted on September 12th, 2020, and commenced at 10 AM with the third-year organizers addressing the virtual gathering. The esteemed Dean of Alagappa College of Technology, Dr. S. Meenakshisundaram was welcomed and he went on to deliver a grounded speech laced with bits of humor and camaraderie. The speech was the highlight of the session and surely put a smile on everyone’s faces for the remainder of its duration. This was followed by a short yet genuine speech by the HoD, Dr. B.S.Lakshmi.

The event progressed to the entertainment segment, where the students expressed themselves through various art forms. This included a soulful vocal rendition, a graceful group dance performance, and a piano rendition. As a tribute to the department – a moment to celebrate the cumulative efforts put in by the staff over the years – the teachers were showered with personal wishes from current students and alumni alike. The event came to a close soon after, culminating with the vote of thanks.

Coordinating any event is no minuscule feat, and an online event is surely no such task. Credits go to the organizers and volunteers from both the second and third years, with special recognition to the editing and technical team for turning the seemingly impossible into a reality.
