Abacus ‘18, one of the most awaited symposiums of CEG, was inaugurated at the Ada Lovelace Auditorium on 27 February 2018. The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of Dr. D. Manjula, HOD, Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DCSE); Dr. A. P. Shanthi, President of the Computer Science and Engineering Association (CSEA); Dr. Rajeshwari Sridhar, Treasurer, CSEA; Dr. Ranjani Parthasarathy, Professor, Department of Information Science and Technology and the chief guest, Mr. Ramji Vasudevan, Senior Manager, Gigamon, who was also one of the supporting pillars of Abacus’18.
The gathering was addressed by Dr. A. P. Shanthi followed by Mr. Ramji Vasudevan who delivered an enlightening speech regaling the importance of failures before success. He pressed on about the need to change and sustain, citing how tech giants climbed their way to the top because they unwaveringly stood by their beliefs. He also told students to define their success criteria and build their legacy. The Chairman of CSEA, Muthu Thillai Natarajan then presented the activities of CSEA including Code for Queens, a coding event to promote women in the field of computer engineering; Sync, an intra-college symposium and Reach, the outreach program conducted at PSNA College of Engineering and Technology, Dindugal. CSHub, a networking platform for students of the present and past, was also highly appreciated during the address.
There was an overwhelming response from many enthusiastic students for the events and workshops, which were a great platform to develop skills in technical and management aspects. ‘Hello World’, an exclusive event for first years, was also well received.
The valedictory ceremony was held at Turing Hall on 1 March, where the winners of the varied events were felicitated. Dr. A. P. Shanthi, the President of CSEA, and Dr. D. Manjula, HOD, appreciated the efforts of the team behind the grand success of Abacus ‘18. With Abacus’18 coming to a successful end, the foundation for another successful edition has been set. With the remembrance of the success that Abacus’18 was, it is without a doubt that Abacus’19 will move forward with the same momentum and shine just as bright.
