The Biomedical Engineers Association of Anna University conducted an intra-college symposium Medevolv ‘17 on the 6th and 7th of February.
The guests of honor included Dr S. Muttan, Head of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Dr N. Kumaravel, Professor of Eminence, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Dr. Shenbaga Devi, Professor and Director of Medical Electronics, Dr S. Nirmala Devi, Chairperson of Biomedical Engineers Association, Dr M. Sasikala, Treasurer of Biomedical Engineers Association and other faculties of the department.
The welcome address was given by Dr S. Nirmala Devi. A brief address about the events was given by Sushil Vasan, Secretary of Biomedical Engineers Association. A token of appreciation was provided to Shruti Sekar, a second-year student of Biomedical branch who suggested the creative moniker Medevolv ‘17 for the event.
Dr N. Kumaravel, the chief guest, delivered an impassionate speech on the evolution of Biomedical Engineering and the importance of IEEE membership. Dr S. Muttan then addressed the gathering and spoke of Anna University's latest honour- being granted the UGC’s prestigious status of ‘University with Potential for Excellence’ in the field of Biomedical Engineering and Instrumentation. The day's proceedings were concluded with the vote of thanks, delivered by Dr M. Sasikala.
The second day of Medevolv started off with a technical event ‘Medorphin’- which tested the students' knowledge of the intricacies of Biomedical Engineering. The event was well received, with over 60 students participating. Other events, such as ‘Wizard of Oz’ – which tested logical thinking and problem solving – were also grand successes. Mr A.N. Muralidharan, Director of IRT solutions, also delivered a lecture on cancer treatment and upcoming technologies in the field. He also described the treatment process and safety aspects of clinicians. His words helped kindle the scientific temper in all the aspiring Biomedical engineers present. The final item of the day was the award ceremony in which the winners of the various events were presented with certificates and trophies.
Medevolv was indeed a grand success, and provided participants an opportunity to loosen up and have fun.
