Out of all the fascinating mysteries the world has to offer, one mystery that stands out and continues to cause fear and chaos, is the centre of unresolved mysteries - The Bermuda Triangle. Popularly referred to as the Devil's Triangle, it is located off the U.S.'s south-eastern coast in the Atlantic Ocean, covering about 440,000 miles of sea and bounded by Bermuda, Florida, and Puerto Rico. It also lies on a busy global shipping route, through which several vessels connecting America and the Caribbean to Europe pass by every day. It is claimed that whoever or whatever goes in and around the triangle, does not return. Numerous ships and planes have been reported to have mysteriously disappeared in this region. The devil's triangle has also been blamed for the disappearance of thousands of people in the past decades.
Over the years, various conspiracy theories and stories have been introduced about this mysterious triangle. The stories revolving around the Bermuda triangle began when Christopher Columbus reportedly saw a flame of fire crashing into the sea in the triangle during his first voyage to the New World. A few other notable incidents are the USS Cyclops, where the collier Cyclops carrying a full load of manganese ore went missing without a trace in 1918, Flight 19, which dropped out of sight while passing through the devil's triangle in 1945, and the disappearance of the U.S. navy avengers in the year of 1950.
Not only was this the cause of the disappearance of incalculable ships and flights in the past, but various incidents involving The Bermuda Triangle have also been significantly noted in recent times. In 2017, a Turkish Airlines aircraft en route to Havana requested for a diversion to Washington D.C. after electrical and mechanical problems were reported over the triangle. Another private aircraft carrying few members vanished from radars and lost radio contact over the triangle in the same year. Such incidents make it extremely intriguing to find the reason behind such unrevealed mysteries.
People accepting the Bermuda Triangle as a real phenomenon have various explanatory approaches that include paranormal and natural explanations. Uncountable supernatural concepts have been used to explain the mystery of this devil's triangle. One explanation pins the blame on leftover technology from the mythical lost continent of Atlantis. Few other explanations involve the concepts of UFOs too. The most commonly accepted scientific explanation is the compass variations caused by the theory of electromagnetic interference. This theory claims an extremely high pull of the earth's natural magnet that redirects the compass and other sophisticated equipment, eventually disallowing them to take their intended route through the waters. While some have theorized that unusual local magnetic anomalies may exist in the area, such anomalies are yet to be found. Other vital natural explanatory approaches are violent weather, human error, and methane hydrates. People across the world have been trying hard to solve this mystery for years. However, many unproven theories and assumptions have been made about this Devil's Triangle.
Many books and movies have been released featuring the famous Bermuda Triangle and its unexplained disappearances. A few of the works highlighting the devil's triangle are - 'The Bermuda Triangle' by Charles Berlitz, 'Beyond the Bermuda Triangle' directed by William Graham, and 'The triangle,' a horror thriller directed by Lewis Teague.
In our day-to-day lives, we are stuck with a never-ending cycle of work, packed with responsibilities to uphold. Amidst this, we should always be curious to learn more about our surroundings, which consists of various mysteries that make us knowledgeable, energetic, and logical. It is often said that necessity is the mother of inventions. However, it is imperative to inculcate curiosity and mystery to lay the foundation for inventions. The hour's need is to retain our desire to know the unknown and solve the mysteries that lie ahead of us.
