Dean Speaks #2

After a busy two months of Techofes and Kurukshetra, we are finally in the season of symposiums. It gives me great pleasure in seeing students organize symposiums and conferences in our college. It proves to the outside world that our college excels not only in academics but also in extra-curricular activities. The fact that these events are conducted completely by the students gives me confidence that we are indeed a college that prepares its students for the trials of the outside world. In response to my article last week, a one Mr. Arjun had raised a very valid point. It is a goal that we all must strive to achieve. The various clubs in our college are working to keep various areas of this campus clean. The estate officials are also working extra hard to make sure that our campus is clean and green. Any suggestions and feedback from the students are most welcome. My doors are open to all students who have ideas to improve our college. I'd also encourage the student representatives to attend the meeting regularly and take up issues such as these. It is upto other students to make the student representatives represent their issues to the faculty so we can work together for our own betterment.

With regard to the Green campus initiative, the first step is to reduce the consumption of papers, banners and posters in our college. As I walk around the campus, I see it being bombarded with a large number of posters and hoardings. I cannot help but feel bad for the amount of paper being wasted. Moreover, it spoils the environment and ambience of the campus. So I request all event organizers to take their marketing to social media where they'd have a much bigger reach and keep the number of posters and banners to a bare minimum. Further it is only fair that the organizers of these events make sure that they clean up after their event. It is the responsibility of every student to co-operates and helps us maintain this campus.

We have received regulations from the government to keep our campus clean and  hygienic so as to prevent Dengue and Swine flu. An important measure is to use washrooms properly and prevent littering. The most important littering zones in college are outside Gurunath and the canteen. It is up to every student to maintain cleanliness of our campus so we can protect each other and ourselves from diseases.

Starting this month, a lot of our alumni have come forward and volunteered to speak at the Alumni Center regarding placement interviews and career opportunities. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to interact with alumni and learn from their experiences. Several good things have been happening in the campus. The fact that this year's events have had no sort of groupism or ‘gangism’ and you have stood united brings me great pleasure. If this sort of good work continues we can have more and more activities in college. The number of student vehicles has reduced drastically and more and more students are coming to college dressed decently during working hours. Although it may seem like we are enforcing too many rules, we have our reasons. Students bringing their vehicles inside campus is an unsafe decision. As there are too many students we don't have enough space inside our campus to accommodate all vehicles.

In conclusion, I'd like to address the Wi-Fi situation in our campus. I can assure you that trees have not been massacred to create Wi-Fi huts. Wi-Fi huts are a place to accommodate students and help them rest for a while in the middle of hot sunny days. As for Wi-Fi in the hostels, we are working to improve the connectivity in the hostels, however because we are bound by certain restrictions, this process can take some time. So we request you to bear with us and cooperate so we can get this done much faster. But I assure you that we will bring better Wi-Fi connectivity to the hostels.
